Marine Biology

Alright folks, as promised, here is the Shark Dissection manual. It is long (24 pages) and there is a lot of information but you obviously don’t need to memorize everything or regurgitate it all on the spot. But, it is imperative that you know ALL the anatomical terms (page 2), the general external anatomy (pages 2 and 3), and the circulatory and digestive anatomy (pages 11 and 12).  Know the location of each structure on these pages and its general function.

Below are some handouts/images that may be helpful.

Counter-current flow is used for gas exchange because it allows for maximal diffusion. The pictorial representation below compares the two, and hopefully, elucidates the difference.

We covered a lot of material, somewhat sporadically, that deals with Oceanography. I have tried to put it all in one area in the Oceanography handout.

You should also know some basic cell biology. Prokaryotes vs Eurkaryotes, Unicellular vs Multicellular, etc.

For the Aquarium part of the exam, you ought to know the stuff in this handout, and the Nitrogen cycle (below).

Nitrogen CycleMore stuff awaiting when my internet connection stops throwing its little tantrums. In the meantime, here is something to keep you entertained.
